Default Lag issues.

I know that recently Guild Wars has been plagued by lag, but I'm here to ask whether or not mine is related.

For the past month or so, I've been getting a lot of lag spikes, but only during the evenings, after 6 P.M EST. I've been able to play well in the mornings and afternoons, but once it hits that time, my connection begins being plagued by constant lag spikes that often results in my disconnection.

I've tried several things offered by my guildmates. I've tried power resetting my Router (Linksys model WRT54G) and DSL modem (Westell Model 6100). When neither worked, I completely uninstalled Guild Wars and then reinstalled it, doing a -image command afterwards, then proceeded to defrag the file using contig and power defragmenter. Still, no luck.

So, what do you guys think?

Which servers are you on? I'm on european but live in America. I only have large lag spikes at night from about 7p.m. est and on. Maybe yours is related?

I live on the East coast, currently playing on American servers. The thing that gets me is that none of my guild mates seem to be getting the same lag I am, although some of them are a little bit more inland.

edit: I figured it might help if I post my pings and whatnot. During the times where I can actually play, I get anywhere around 100-200 ms. When the lag starts occurring, I'm usually hovering at around 200-250, and when it spikes, it usually goes to 2000+. When this starts happening, I find that I can't even get to the loading screen as my guild mates attempt to enter to fight the Zaishen in HA. I freeze with the timer at 0:00, and my screen doesn't load, except I can still move my camera and hear my guild mates fine on vent.

That tells me everything I need to know. Your ISP is getting bogged down with internet traffic as people come home and log into the internet to do their things too. They don't have enough bandwidth dedicated to your DSL's junction station to handle your area. There's nothing you can do - This is an issue that your ISP has to fix.

Sorry that I couldn't help on this!

Ah okays, thanks . My last question is: If this is true, then why has it only started happening recently?

Then why is my only problem with Guild Wars and why is it only happening within the last few weeks. This certainly doesn't seem like a logical theory.....

It could be that your ISP added a bunch of new customers that share the same trunking station as you, or some equipment in there is overheating/failing. Again, something they need to fix.

I'm not exactly sure how Anet has their servers set up, but logically speaking, if you're playing for Europe, then they'd likely route your internet traffic to European-based servers. This means that it has to go to several US stations, get bounced over the ocean, reach a server farm there after a few more jumps, then back to you. Try switching your region to America and see what happens.

Run a -diag on GW and post the NetworkDiag file here as an attachment. Might give me a better picture of what's going on.
